# Developer id

> Why a local dll needs your id, and where to set it.

Deepchart loads a dll from the local indicators folder only when the dll was built for the user who is logged in. The dll says who it was built for with a piece of metadata: your **developer id**.

A dll without the id, or with the id of another user, is skipped. The reason is written in the log of the app:

```
Indicators of MyIndicators.dll not loaded: DeepchartDevId missing is not the one of the user
```

## Where to find your id

<Warning>
  This page does not yet say where the developer id is shown. Until it does, ask Deepchart support for yours.
</Warning>

## Where to set it

In `src/DeepchartIndicators.csproj`:

```xml theme={null}
<DeepchartDevId Condition="'$(DeepchartDevId)' == ''">YOUR-DEV-ID</DeepchartDevId>
```

or on the command line, which keeps the id out of the repository:

```bash theme={null}
dotnet build src/DeepchartIndicators.csproj -p:DeepchartDevId=your-id
```

The project writes it in the dll as assembly metadata:

```xml theme={null}
<AssemblyMetadata Include="DeepchartDevId" Value="$(DeepchartDevId)" />
```

which is the same as this line in a source file:

```csharp theme={null}
[assembly: System.Reflection.AssemblyMetadata("DeepchartDevId", "your-id")]
```

The build warns when the id is still the placeholder.

## What the id is not

The id identifies you as the author of the dll on your own installation. It is not a license and it does not protect the dll: a dll built with your id is loaded only by your account. To let other users have your indicators, see [Sharing indicators](/hybrid/sharing).
