A Deepchart indicator is a C# class in a dll. Deepchart loads the dll, lists the indicators it contains, and lets you add them to a chart like the built-in ones: with their parameters in the settings window, their series in the chart, and their state saved in the workspace. This repository is a ready-to-build project with seven small example indicators, and these pages explain how each part works.

What you write

An indicator derives from VolSysAPI.Indicators.Indicator and has four parts:
  • a static Register() method which says how the indicator is listed;
  • parameters: its public properties;
  • series and annotations: what it draws;
  • the calls of the chart it overrides (OnOpen, OnClose, OnTick, …), where it calculates.

Hybrid indicators

The indicators described here are called hybrid: the same dll can be calculated by the desktop chart and by the Deepchart server. To make that possible, an indicator does not use the chart control directly. It draws through a small set of interfaces (IChartSeries, IChartPoint, IAnnotation, IAnnGroup, IAxis) and reads its data through the chart API (VAn). Some features exist only on the desktop chart, the order book for example. They are marked [DesktopOnly] in the API: an indicator can still use them, and it is then calculated on the desktop. See Desktop only features.
